Hong Aik is an MPhil ACE student in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, after completing his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering at University College London. Hong Aik joined the CaPI group for his MPhil Research Project in March 2025.
The research title is “Simulating and optimising an absorption enhanced Haber-Bosch process in Aspen Plus”. The overall aim of this project is to investigate the modification of the conventional Haber-Bosch process for ammonia production to enhance its ability to cope with intermittent renewable energy towards its decarbonisation. This could be done by creating an Aspen Plus simulation where ammonia is synthesized and removed via absorption, with absorption modelled as either a black box component split or a user defined kinetic model written in FORTRAN.
The group is based in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CEB) in West Cambridge
