Catalysis and Process Integration

The CaPI group took part in the annual Cambridge Festival 2022 to showcase our work in sustainability and health and inspire younger generations to get involved in science.

Joseph and Collin’s ignition of hydrogen balloons - to demonstrate how much energy can be stored safely in a few milliliters of liquid ammonia - was definitely a memorable highlight of the festival! They also gave talks on how ammonia, traditionally used as a fertilizer, can help shape the future of energy and solve our climate crisis.

Bruno showcased his silver, gold, platinum and palladium nanoscale materials which have various applications in cancer treatment, rapid disease diagnosis and sustainable catalysis. Kaiwen illuminated his perovskite particles of different sizes to show how they can produce the whole spectrum of colour for RGB displays, while Julien showed how his Iron nanoparticle ‘ferrofluid’ interacts with magnets to produce dazzling patterns.

We really enjoyed interacting with the local community and introducing them to our research.
